21 Jun: Tegan Abel Returns
Published: 20 Jun 2017 - - Author: Newsroom

Talented apprentice Tegan Abel has a good opportunity to bounce straight back into winning form when she resumes raceday riding for a new boss at Pukekohe tomorrow.

Abel (21), who had a short but successful stint when indentured to Graeme Rogerson, is now under the guidance of the Rogers team further North at the Pukekohe Park base.

Abel has been off the scene for two years although has been riding trackwork for the majority of that time. Abel decided the time was right to get back into the silks now that she is fit and at the right weight to easily claim her 4kg allowance.

“I rode at the last two sets of Avondale trials and I felt good. It was a good blowout and I’m looking forward to riding at my new home track tomorrow.”

It was at the Tauranga track in 2015 that she rode her last winner, aboard Torricella at the meeting on January 2015.

Abel has ridden two winners from only 14 starts and is keen to get straight back onto the winner’s list tomorrow.

“I’ve got one ride and he’s a chance with the lightweight,” said Abel, talking about Bold Bachelor in Race 4 tomorrow.

Bold Bachelor, trained by the Rogers team, has had only the one winner but steps out tomorrow with 51.5kg and the ace draw.
