21st Sep: Racing for a cause this Sunday at Pukekohe Park
Published: 21 Sep 2017 - - Author: Newsroom

On Sunday 24th of September, Pukekohe Park will host their annual charity raceday in the hopes of raising awareness and funds for the New Zealand Spinal Trust (NZST).

NZST is a registered charity that helps people with spinal cord impairments, and Pukekohe Park’s mission is to raise the bar on the $9,000 raised for them at the 2016 raceday.

The 2017 raceday will be bursting with entertainment on and off the track, with the jockeys competing in a ‘Moonhopper Race’, wood chopping displays throughout the day and a booked out Spinal Trust function.

A celebrity team on the day, made up of Black Fern Charmaine Smith, rugby player Zac Guildford, Waikato captain Dwayne Sweeney, top female jockey Sam Spratt and Trackside’s presenter Darryl Anderson will bravely take on the champion New Zealand Wheelblacks team in a Wheelchair challenge in the birdcage.

The day also will also feature top thoroughbred racing including the Listed Haunui Farm Karaka Classic at 3:35pm featuring classy stayer Chance To Dance and the steely grey Megablast who lines up back on his home track.

Gates open at 11:00am on Sunday and general admission is free. Donations to the New Zealand Spinal Trust can be made at any of the bars on the day.

For any queries relating to the NZST, please contact Trevor Harrison on 027 280 1842. Or for raceday enquiries contact Marketing Coordinator Natalie Jamieson on 09 238 8049.
