Welcome to 'JASON PRICE RACING''Class A' Public Trainers
In 2007, Jason Price secured his 'Class A' Public Trainers Licence and has been training, with wife Kelly who is a big part of the operation, at their Matamata property ever since.
The 20 acre training facility in Matamata is well appointed with boxes, walker, an 800m track, and plenty of individual paddocking for the 14 he has in work. The extensive property also allows horses to spell there.
Breaking & Pre-training
In addition to the training, Kelly and Jason also offer breaking and pre-training services and these complement their successful training business very well.
Both Jason and Kelly are very 'hands on' and every horse is treated individually. The relaxed and quiet atmosphere at the training complex is one that the horses really enjoy.
Jason says ......
"Good owners are paramount to their operation and they are grateful to have ones that are happy to let the couple get on with what needs to be done".

The Early Years
Jason Price started out life in Matamata as a school kid, helping out and learning to ride at a stables that was close by to his home.
By age 13 he was a capable rider and worked for Mike Moroney at his Matamata yard at weekends and during the school holidays. It was a relationship that continued for the next 3 years until he eventually left school and travelled to Melbourne to work in the Moroney yard over there. It proved to be an exciting six months at the Melbourne stables for the young Jason as it was the year that Brew won the Melbourne Cup.
Jason subsequently returned to Matamata, continuing to work for Mike and during that time Second Coming won the Wellington Cup. He then had a further stint back in Melbourne before he eventually returned to New Zealand to take up the position of Foreman at the Moroney's Matamata base.
Although Jason then took a break from working with racehorses for a year, the passion for racing saw him return to the industry and he began riding trackwork for Roger James and Katrina Alexander.
Then he went on join the Graeme Richardson racing team where he was involved in breaking, pre-training and riding trackwork. This led to him starting to train a few of his own and taking out a 'Permit to Train' licence in 2005 and ultimately securing his 'Class A' Trainers Licence in 2007.
