'Trudy Keegan, Trainer'
'Class A' Public Trainer's Licence
Trudy Keegan operates her Bellbrooke Racing Stables from an 80 acre training facility in Stratford.
Always crazy about horses as a kid, she progressed through the Pony Club and Equestrian ranks before going on to work in stables and stud farms for 10 years.
The Training Complex
Trudy's 80 acre establishment boasts an 800 metre sandtrack, spacious boxing, yards to accommodate 24 horses, and a schooling arena. The Stratford racing facilities are also close at hand for fastwork, when needed.
The Bellbrooke training establishment has 2 full time and 3 part time staff with around 20 horses in work all the time. Additionally they generally have a few more coming up through the ranks.
Training & Alternative Therapy
Trudy's veterinary nursing background assisted her with looking at alternative treatments, particularly for those horses tying up, and with other mental and physical issues. This treatment proved to be very successful for her, first evidenced when Les Sylphides (a $1200 purchase) went on to win 5 races, including the Stratford Cup.
Around 50 percent of the stables success have come from 'castoffs' with problems, their boutique operation offering healing/massage and energy healing working really well. Three of these horse with chronic typing up and other performance effecting issues went on to win 10 races collectively.

The Early Years
A qualified Veterinary Nurse, Trudy worked in this role for 5 years whilst riding trackwork. This was followed by a ten year stint of farming with her husband, during which she worked with race horses coming off the track re-schooling and on-selling.
In 2008, Trudy took out a 'Permit to Train' licence and bought a couple of cheap thoroughbreds to train. Amazingly, she achieved a win at her first start!
Word of her breaking in those youngsters she had purchased saw her being approached by others to break theirs in and subsequently Trudy was asked to train them as well. This she did and it was the beginning of her successful training operation.
In 2014,Trudie gained her 'Class A' Public Trainers Licence and from then, she has never looked back.
